AUTOGRILL

Company: Autogrill – Italy

The vast and articulated restaurant system of the rest areas along the Italian motorways was born at the beginning of the fifties, with the first refreshment point built on the Turin-Milan highway.
Since then, thanks to a generation of enlightened entrepreneurs such as Pavesi, Motta and Alemagna who identified the motorways also as a model of modernization of the country, the development of these structures enjoied a continuous expansion.

Today it comes to count hundreds of dining options and rest areas managed by various brands, including Autogrill.

The customer was looking for a centralized and efficiency solution, which would guarantee a homogeneous measurable and verifiable result in terms of energy savings and emission reduction; in addition to the efficiency results, the customer highlighted the need to monitor and manage the energy and electrical data of all the sites where the device would be installed.

The project

In December 2014 was installed a first 600 A pilot EP-X device on the Po Est store, located on the A13 motorway near Ferrara. Over the next 6 years, the client installed 33 EP-X of various sizes, between 125 A and 800 A.

Where possible, installations were carried out downstream of the existing main breaker, while in other cases the device was installed upstream of the main switch with the integrated magneto-thermal protection switch.

On average, the sites where the devices have been installed have a used power of about 200 kW and an energy consumption of about 500.000 kWh.
The configuration of the lines where the EP-X system has been applied is as follows:

• Non-Inverter Machinery
• Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
• Traditional lighting
• Electronic lighting
